Candid Conversation with Business Iconic Magazine, Malika Sadani the Founder & CEO of The Moms Co gave some insightful answers highlighting her contributions towards introducing a new manner providing products to new moms, moms-to-be and babies. Its products are Australian certified toxic-free and made safe. The products are also Australian Allergy Certified which are natural, safe and effective.
Q. Kindly brief us about your professional journey and what kind of ethics, principles and manner of working you observe while managing the business operations?
Before starting The Moms Co., I was a banker with degrees in engineering and business management. When my daughter had her first skin reaction, I realized that there was a dearth of natural, safe and effective products for moms and babies in India. I always wondered – Why should it be difficult to find a natural and safe baby lotion? After speaking with over 200 moms, I realized there is a need for natural, safe products but there weren’t many options. The Moms Co. was born out of a need to address this problem and to provide natural, non-toxic, effective products that moms would love to use – right from the beginning of their beautiful journey to every step of the way. I always tell my team that we can never launch a product that we would hesitate to use on our kids and family. We invest a lot of time in formulating the Safest, natural formulations that are truly effective. We like to back our claims with Clinical studies so that our consumers get nothing but the best from us. We work with experts from India, Australia and Switzerland to create the safest formulations that are as close to nature as can be and use ingredients from around the world. All our products are Australia certified toxin-free, Australia Allergy Free, Certified Made Safe by Safe Cosmetics Australia and PETA certified cruelty-free.
Q. Could you please share your noted milestones, accomplishments throughout your journey so far along with company highlights and achievements under your leadership?
A passionate entrepreneur and a mother of two young daughters, I am the Founder & CEO of The Moms Co., India’s leading company for toxin-free products catering to expectants and new moms seeking natural, chemical-free products for their daily personal care regimen. In a short span, I have received several awards, including the Times She UnLTD.
Entrepreneur Awards and Business World 40 Under 40 and others; I have also been awarded the Business World Women Entrepreneur of the Year award and facilitated at the World Women Economic Forum, while the product range has also been recognized at the Cosmopolitan Beauty Awards, Mother & Baby Awards – Mum’s Award and yet others.
I have also participated in panel discussions and been a speaker at prominent events, such as She Leads Tech, Entrepreneur Startup Summit, India Retail Forum, Luxury Lifestyle Weekend – Power Panel, exchange4media FMCG Round Table, among many more.
Q. Please tell us about the business model you follow and the services you provide that makes the brand unique in the mid of cut throat competition.
The Moms Co. creates and sells products for prenatal, postnatal, mom and baby care that are made with the best of natural ingredients and are free from all harmful chemicals. What makes us unique is our sharp focus on the mom. We aim to add comfort to the life of the mom by being her trusted partner in the journey of motherhood. While there was a category for babies and for beauty, we take great pride in introducing a new category – Mom & Baby. We are the only brand in India that has the largest portfolio of pregnancy products and focus to add value to the mom’s life through our content and products.
Q. Please share the most memorable and remarkable moment of your life.
Professionally it was when one of our ex-employees came back to see us with a gift which was a product from her own startup. She said it was her stint at The Moms Co. that inspired her to venture into her own Entrepreneur Journey. It was very heartening. Personally – I remember I had returned from an event in Mumbai where I had been recently awarded and I saw my daughter holding the award and roaming around, when I asked her what she was doing – She said she is showing off her new dress (the award) and she said she had named it pride.
Q. Where do you see yourself and the company in future? Or, what is your goal to mark the uniqueness in future?
In 2021, our goal is to become an INR 200 Crore brand We created The Moms Co. to help moms make safe, natural and effective choices for themselves and their families, and over the next couple of years hope to take our mission global by launching in a couple of other countries outside India too.
Q. Advice for the budding women entrepreneurs ?
I believe it’s important for women to believe in themselves, If you don’t believe in yourself you can’t expect others to believe in you either. Women shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help either. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. Women often don’t ask for help because they fear getting judged and end up spending a lot of time figuring out the answers by themselves. No one is expected to have all the answers and I strongly believe asking for help is a sign of strength, not a weakness.
Q. What is the one thing that is acting as your motivational tool? Or, who is your role model and how the person inspires and motivates you?
My journey started from a personal struggle to find nothing but the best for my daughters and they are my constant motivation to do better. Professionally, I love to follow Payal Kadakia, the founder of Classpass. It’s very inspiring to see how someone turned her passion into a thriving business that helps millions of people and is valued at over a billion dollars.
