A leader could hire a leadership coach for a variety of reasons. A leadership coach may help new, inexperienced, or high-potential leaders learn important leadership skills or develop confidence in a new leadership job. Seasoned leaders may employ a leadership coach to help them break through a stumbling block, overcome a specific obstacle, or expedite the achievement of a certain objective. A leadership coach not only aids in the development of a leader’s abilities and confidence, but also works as a co-pilot, assisting the leader in the trenches with specific difficulties and goals that are unique to the leader.
Unlike leadership training, which generally follows a defined curriculum, leadership coaching is completely tailored to the individual, assisting them in moving from their present leadership level to the leader they aspire to be.
Mr. Santosh Sunar is the CEO and Founder of BeTheGuide, an Indian Mentoring Academy Private LTD in Shilong. He fantasised of stepping in front of a crowd and giving a life-changing speech about his passion. He took a tremendous risk by quitting his job to pursue his passion, and this element reveals how dedicated a person can be. His ambition is to make Meghalaya, and India as a whole, a centre of skilled people.
BeTheGuide
BeTheGuide’s mission is to produce motivational speakers, professional trainers, entrepreneurs, and motivational clubs across India’s schools and universities, as well as to become the country’s leading training and development centre. It also wants to create a great motivational environment, including a motivational mall, a motivational library, and a great motivational ecology for companies and the general public to think positively at all times and decrease the dangers of unethical human behaviour.
Early Life and Beginning as a Motivational Coach
Mr. Sunar defines self-driving as “not accepting failure at any point of your life.” It entails becoming more self-disciplined and completing any given work before your boss raises a finger at you. While earning his bachelor’s degree in Zoology, he failed twice (Hons). After graduation, he was looking for work. Santosh has experience in a variety of fields. He had previously worked as a teacher, at an internet café, and in construction. Santosh says, “I’ve done things that were outside of my comfort zone.”
He aspired to be a naval officer at first. “I try to work outside of my comfort zone as much as possible.” That’s why, when I worked at HSBC, I used to deal with people who made an 8-figure salary while I only made a five-figure salary, “Santosh muses. As a result, he realised that the banking industry was not his true calling. He felt compelled to do more. As a result, he began searching on Google and came across a number of motivational speaking videos and channels. Santosh continues, “I was captivated by the motivational speakers and the way they affected people’s lives.”
He’s worked in a variety of industries to get experience in a variety of marketplaces. However, a chance to work with HSBC arose. Working with an international bank as a graduate of a different programme was a challenge. He, on the other hand, never backed down from a good rodeo. He’s learned that when you’re in a new zone, there are three things you should do: watch, analyse, and implement. Santosh explains, “I call this the OAI model—Observation, Analysis, and Implementation.”
Mr. Sunar recalls a period in 2008 when he was offered a position with a floriculture firm in Mizoram. The company was successful in producing a large quantity of flowers for the market, and it is now a thriving business in Mizoram. People come from many states and neighbouring countries, such as Myanmar, to work there. Mr. Sunar was hired as a Project Supervisor at the time, and his job was to monitor how other supervisors and workers conducted their duties during the day. His General Manager was from Kerala, a divine state with a wealth of knowledge in this sector. He recalls, “One day, he phoned me and said, ‘Remember Santosh, wherever you work, this phrase will enable you to get the most out of your life at all times, and the first term of success he remarked, and I quote, ‘Kill the noise before it kills you.'”
Challenges that Make Journey Notable
“To be one of the Top performers in different companies for many years needs a lot of unrelenting dedication and yes, you have got to be a problem solver. “
Mr. Sunar has worked in the field of motivational coaching for 15 years. He reflected on how he began his professional career. He rose through the ranks of BeTheGuide Indian Mentoring Academy Private Limited, from part-time Internet café worker to CEO and Founder. He was never in a comfortable zone during his career; he was only exposed to unpleasant conditions. Guess what he learnt is that being in a comfortable zone does not provide the required experience and does not qualify one as a subject matter expert. He asserts, “Different careers that did not align with my degrees allowed me to merely OBSERVE at the start of my float career. This insight helped me comprehend my job and my goals, which helped me become more competitive in the workplace, and it was then that I realised I needed to be more creative in my work.”
Because he had no prior expertise in any of these disciplines, Mr. Sunar began researching and investigating any topics or subjects he didn’t know about. However, he gained the ability to make rapid decisions as a result of the procedure, and this was his unique selling offer. Mr. Sunar realised while working with these companies that “your talents and identity are concealed” and that “your abilities and identity do not come out until you confront the problem boldly and work it out with a good frame of mind.” Mr. Sunar learned the importance of killing the volume before it kills you over his long path of struggle, perplexity, and achievement.
Even though he is just a graduate student in Zoology, Mr. Sunar was given the opportunity to work for an international bank. Isn’t it surprising? Yes, and it’s a watershed moment in his career. He learnt how to absorb all of the information on numerous issues when he first started working for this company. He states, “To absorb is to comprehend and coach oneself in order to become a Subject Matter Expert. The Multinational Company’s workers are simply too inventive, competitive, and imaginative.” Every day he was overwhelmed with his emotions and he used to think,“Should I even continue working with them? Everyone will have this strange thought of leaving the job, so it’s nothing new; however, you must learn to tame such thoughts and become dedicated to one company and work for at least 5- 10 years; these years will teach you to become highly professional, and you will even become a subject matter expert and a problem solver; however, you must know how to tame such thoughts and become dedicated to one company and work for at least 5- 10 years; these years will teach you.”
Recognition for Exemplary Work
Mr. Sunar continued to work for another five years. During that time, he was labelled as a self-motivated individual who required little attention from his superiors. He offered his supervisors little opportunity to point fingers at him; instead, he worked, absorbed, and assessed his development in all areas, and after just two to three years, he was honoured with the STAR OF BUSINESS SERVICES AWARD for his outstanding performance. He has received several honours prior to this coveted prize.
He says, “When you are recognised for your accomplishment, it creates a buzz around you, and everyone wants to talk about you. You are thrilled, and all the mixed feelings of grief, excitement, and happiness flow wild inside you.“
Mr. Sunar was recognised and awarded as One of the Top100 Entrepreneurs in Meghalaya in the Chief Minister’s Business E-Champion Challenge 2019 and was awarded a National Award for being the Best Motivational Speaker of the Year 2021 organised by NEBA, Hypedge Media, and ICAN Foundation India. He was also featured and certified as one of the Top 100 Educators in India by Journey Magazine in association with CodeBharat in 2021.
BeTheGuide is felicitated with a Global Choice Award as one of the Best Motivational Coaching Centers in India in 2021. The centre was also awarded and featured in Business Fame Magazine as one of the Best Innovative Start-ups to look for in 2021 and as India’s Fastest Growing Start-up by CIOLOOKINDIA, an International Magazine 2020.
Make Your Learning Useful
Mr. Sunar claims that he has put what he has learned over the years into practise while also strengthening his decision-making abilities. He advises that at each level, the application of what has been learned be monitored and checked. This will reveal your strengths and shortcomings. He’s always wanted to establish his own firm, and no matter where the company is now, he’s excited. Mr. Sunar’s advice to everyone is “You’re up against a hurdle in your discussion, but don’t give up.” His vision of motivating others establishes the primary objectives for everyone by providing them with platforms to overcome their worries of living in uncertainty, having low self-esteem, and being underestimated despite their enormous potential to be better.
